This zip files includes all STATA do files producing the analysis of the paper. The attached do files are

* databuild.do
* income.do
* education.do
* robustness_education.do
* robustness_income.do
* Table2.do

The validation data used in this analysis are drawn from Danish administrative registers and are confidential. However, our access is not unique and others can gain similar access by following a procedure described by Statistics Denmark at http://www.dst.dk/en/TilSalg/Forskningsservice.aspx.

Researchers need to submit a written application to Statistics Denmark. The application should include a detailed research proposal describing the goals and methods of the project, a detailed list of variables, and the selection criteria to be used. Once received, applications must be approved by the Danish Data Protection Agency in order to ensure that data are processed in a manner that protects the confidentiality of registered individuals.

SHARE release 2.5.0 data is available via the SHARE Research Data Center and can be downloaded by registered SHARE users. Access to the data is subject to the SHARE Data Access Rules and Conditions of Use, which are publicly available on the project's website: www.share-project.org/data-access-documentation/research-data-center-data-access.html.

Conditional on these approvals, Statistics Denmark will then determine which data one may obtain in accordance with the research plan. All processing of individual data takes place on servers located at Statistics Denmark via secure remote terminal access.

The file databuild.do produces the dataset used for the analysis of the paper from SHARE and Danish administrative register data.

The file income.do produces the graphs shown in the top half of Figure 1, the estimates shown in the first two columns of Table 2 and Table A.3 in the Appendix.

The file education.do produces the graphs shown in the bottom half of Figure 2 and the estimates shown in the second two columns of Table 2.

The file robustness_education.do produces Table A.4 in the Appendix.

The file robustness_income.do produces Table A.5 in the Appendix.

The file Table2.do merges the .ster files produced in income.do and education.do and combines them in Table 2.
